U3A Stocksbridge Walking group

Open to all Sheffield U3A members - but non-members can walk with us for up to three visits before they need to join the organisation - current fee is £10 a year. This leads to a quarterly local news letter, national membership with national info,  and access to LOADS of different groups e.g. .Local History, Modern & classical language groups, Reading groups, Tai-chi, Traveling abroad - you name it Sheffield U3A does it! Most U3A members are 50+ (current members of the local walking group are mostly 55+) but no age limit applies.

Our group walks every Thursday from various locations. Walks start promptly at 10:00. We are keen to keep costs down so often share lifts to reach the start point and where possible use public transport. Walks are between 5 and 8 miles depending on difficulty with a time limit of 3-3.5 hours so we can usually reach a real ale pub for a good lunch. Most members contribute to leading a walk and new members will be encouraged to join in with support if needed.

Sheffield Ramblers Group

The Sheffield Group has walks on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Sundays, and easy 'Walking Out' walks on Thursdays and Saturdays. Many of these are in the Stocksbridge area. Except for coach rambles all use public transport, and bus or train details are given in the description. People traveling by car are welcome to join the group at the start of the walk, but they should check whether the walk is circular – i.e. returning to the same point - or linear, in which case the walk will finish at another point where public transport is available.

Sheffield Ramblers also support the Sheffield Visually Impaired Walking Group who offer a regular programme of led walks. For more see www.sviwg.co.uk, contact 0114 234 1217 or write to SVIWG c/o Sheffield Royal Society for the Blind, 5 Mappin Street, Sheffield S1 4DT.
