A day of activities to celebrate and explore our local woodlands, and the health benefits they bring.

Trans Pennine Trail

The Trans Pennine Trail is a 370 mile network of accessible multi-user paths across the North of England. The paths are maintained by the 27 local authorities it passes through but they need tending to and improving.

New walks

Seven new walks have been added to the site. These can be found on the Additional walks tab.

Closed Permissive Path - More Hall Reservoir Embankment

From 10th September the path across More Hall reservoir embankment will be closed. Yorkshire water is carrying out improvements to the spillway and embankment. Path due to reopen in Spring 2019.

Temporary prohibition of pedestrians in Wigtwizzle and More Hall

Work will be carried out on or near the highway and there is potential danger to the public.  The work will start on 1 October and will last for 6 months.  This may affect the planning of walks.  The areas affected are:

Allas Lane to New Road
All as Dike to Mill Lane
Rushy Lane to Canyards Hill Lane/Lee Lane junction
Dwarriden Lane to Dwarriden Lane
Fairhurst Lane to Rocher Lane
Rocher Lane to Jack Lane/Fairhurst Lane
Jack Lane/Fairhurst Lane to More Hall Reservoir
Carr House Lane/Jack Lane/Fairhurst Lane to More Hall Reservoir

They are not all closed for 6 months.  Statutory notices will be displayed in the areas.

Ramblers - Best Walking Neighbourhood Award

Stocksbridge was voted a close second to the winner, Hastings.

Thank you to the 2377 people who voted for Stocksbridge, only 280 votes fewer than Hastings which has ten times the population of Stocksbridge.

Report a Path

The local authorities are responsible for ensuring that landowners and others do not affect your right to use public paths. They can take action against people who block or damage paths or who do something that stops you from using them.

Please contact us using the Report a Path page if you find any problems on or near public paths.

We will log the report and pass the message onto the relevant authority.

Living streets project

If you come across a footpath sign that is in poor condition or not easy to read can you make a note of its location and send this to info@stocksbridge.org. It may be possible to replace the sign through a project called Living Streets.
